Will Harper’s Island lure in veiwers for BBC3?

harpers-island-00Harper’s Island comes to BBC3 soon, as a show that was cancelled (or ‘was’ never supposed to be longer than its 13 episodes- yeah right) in the US (by CBS), will it transfer well over in the UK. Its described as a horror/suspence/’whodunnit’ show, I’m guessing with action like in LOST or HEROES (well the first season anyway) it should do okay with young veiwers (someone BBC3 obviously targets). However the show in the US failed because it was broadcast on CBS (which yes sounds weird – with it being the most watched US channel) but CBS’s veiwers are above 50, they watch CSI because they like the learning out part; not the horrorific small parts. Which basically meant that CBS veiwers wouldn’t watch the show. However BBC3 could give the show that demographic with its star shows Family Guy and Being Human being big among yong people, the show could be a hit for the channel (which is already looking forward to the 1million heroes veiwers pre-watching episodes on BBC3 this autumn). So I think that unlike in the US, Harper’s Island has everything really to allow it to succeed for BBC3 (and the fact that its cheap as it was cancelled) but we’ll never know until the numbers come out and I’m interested to see how it does for BBC3 who’s drama department seems to be quite dark.

I don’t think the Beeb got Harper’s on the cheap tas they bought the rights to the show before it was canceled in the US. I do think it could do well on BBC Three, the only problem is for a serialised show with the whodunnit mystery 2 seconds on Google took me to the Wikipedia page of the show with a great big chart of what happens to all the characters. That may put off people tuning in when the central mystery has been spoiled. Anything’s better than repeats of Coming of Age though!

Definietly anything is better than ‘Coming Of Age’ repeats. I generally try to stay away from wikipedia when I watch shows, especially LOST (seeing as I’m behind).
